Friendship is the virtue that began our school year, with each class exploring
ways of understanding and expressing its meaning. Like all virtues, friendship is never
finished with. Not only do we always
need friends we also need to keep asking ourselves what friendship is all
about, why it’s so important and how I can be a really good friend.
Every school year opens with a sense of “newness”. Teachers have a new class, students move to a
new grade, some arrive from other schools and some have their very first day at
school. Such newness can make you feel a
stranger, so friendship can’t afford to wait.
I’ve been very impressed by the welcome given to the new people at our
school. The blessing we had in the first
week for those beginning this year, made it clear that our school wants
everyone involved to feel at home.
Being friends with
one another helps the life of the school and our own personal lives. It brings trust and honesty, care, respect
and joyfulness. No life needs anything more.
